Diarrhea is a fairly common disease in dogs. Diarrhea is largely non-serious and can be cured at home if you use the right treatment. However, it is not subjective, because severe diarrhea can also cause your dog to die.
Here are some natural remedies for treating diarrhea in dogs.

Causes, diarrhea states in dogs.
1. Determine the cause of diarrhea.
Most diarrhea is caused by dogs eating and not eating. If this is the case, the dog may recover by itself after the food is discarded.
However, if what the dog eats is harmful, or poisonous, it must be taken to the vet immediately.

2. Diarrhea with fever.[1]
Check your dog's body temperature. In normal cases, the fever will not be accompanied by fever. If there is a fever, it is most likely infected somewhere within. When measuring the temperature of your dog under the anus, wear a dog's muzzle if you are concerned that they will bite you during the temperature measurement. Lubricate the thermometer, lift the tail and gently insert the thermometer into the dog's anus. With bitches, you should avoid accidentally putting the thermometer into the vulva just below the anus.
Normal temperature is 38 to 39 degrees Celsius.
A temperature of 39.7 degrees C or higher indicates that your dog has a fever.

3. Diarrhea with vomiting.[2]
If your dog has diarrhea and vomiting, dehydration is twice as serious. In this case you should consult the vet immediately.

4. Diarrhea with blood.[3]
Bloody diarrhea indicates that the dog has an infection or bleeding in the digestive tract, which can be life-threatening. You cannot tell the difference between inflammation and bleeding at home. Therefore, see a doctor immediately if there is blood in the dog's feces.

Dehydration reduces the blood supply to organs like the liver or kidneys and causes potential damage. Relatively check the condition of dehydration, lift the skin of the neck from the shoulder blade, then release.

If the nape of the neck returns to the correct position from the shoulder blade, this indicates that the dog skin is well hydrated.
If the dog is dehydrated, the skin will be less elastic and take a few seconds or longer to return to its proper state.

The diarrhea will cause tired dogs to dislike activity but if your dog's good spirit, the eyes are still bright and alert. However, if your dog appears to be lifeless, apathetic, unstable or worse, you should ask your veterinarian, to prevent the dog from falling into a major depression.

Balance your diet during periods of diarrhea.

1. Follow a 12-24 hour diet a meal.
That is, extending the feeding time from 12 hours to 24 hours, with such a diet will help limit the contraction of the stomach. When dogs have diarrhea, the faster and stronger the contraction mechanism, the longer-term fasting will help soothe and normalize the digestive system.

When your dog has diarrhea that can lead to dehydration, you need to provide a clean water supply to ensure your dog's weakened digestive system and reduce dehydration.

3. Use soft, easily digested food after your dog is fasting.
After feeding the dog after 12h-24h but do not fast, DO NOT bring the dog back to the normal menu immediately. Instead, give your dog soft, easily digested food.
An ideal snack is a diet without fat or red meat.
Avoid milk and dairy products, as many dogs cannot tolerate milk sugar and can cause diarrhea.
Do not add spices to foods because bland foods reduce diarrhea.
A dog with diarrhea will not start right away, you should not worry too much, watch for diarrhea and your dog will recover.

4. Follow the diet recommended by veterinarians.
If your dog can't eat bland foods prepared at home, ask your veterinarian to prescribe a diet that helps your stomach heal. Several diets like Hills ID and Purina EN have been shown to help treat diarrhea.

5. Divide the diet into small meals. [7]

Small meals reduce stomach irritation and constriction. After a period of reduced diet to stabilize the digestive system, then it is possible for the dog to return to normal mode. However, the amount of food is still the same, but the number of meals will be increased and divided evenly throughout the day. This will ensure that the weak digestive system is not re-diarrhea.

6. Switch slowly to a normal diet.
When the diarrhea has stopped, the dog can return to the diet as before. Use a combination diet for 2 days before returning as before so your bowel can recover completely. The conversion diet is as follows:
- Day 1: Mix ⅔ soft food with ⅓ normal food.
- Day 2: Mix ⅓ soft food with ⅔ normal food.
- Day 3 dogs can return to normal diet.

7. Use probiotics.

Probiotics are good bacteria for digestion and help dogs recover from diarrhea. Probiotics can be lost if your dog has diarrhea. The addition of probiotics will help the process of regenerating probiotics faster. The choice of probiotics for dogs you can buy outside pet stores, should not use human probiotics for dogs.
8. Use diarrhea medication specifically for dogs.[8]
The steps above help treat cases of mild diarrhea. On the other hand, using a cure for diarrhea will help prevent the risk of severe diarrhea and potential complications. However, it must be specialized products for dogs and should not use other drugs including human medicine. If after 1-2 days of application of the above methods the condition does not improve or slowly, you should take the dog to the vet.
